Death By Audio Amp Crash

Undoubtedly unlike anything else on your pedalboard, Amp Crash is a collaboration between Death By Audio and Rainger FX which mingles a true 3W amp, a 2" speaker, a microphone, and multi-effects together in one boisterous pedal. Not an amp modeler or a simulator, this real thing conjures wild sounds from the air between its internal mic and speaker. Feedback is a big part of the design, and it's controllable—sputtering the tone into playable harmonics rather than running away with it.

Two output controls define the core structure: DI OUT sets the level of the amplifier's direct signal, while MIC OUT sets the level of the internal microphone. The interaction between the two covers a lot of ground, from tight distortion with higher DI OUT settings to room-in-a-box and gnarly acoustic feedback effects when MIC OUT is pushed. If you'd like to tame things a bit, the MIC GATE toggle engages noise gating on the mic channel, triggered by the instrument input so it opens when you play. The GAIN control runs from edge-of-breakup into OVERLOAD, where the circuit starts oscillating, and TONE moves the amp's EQ from deep and bass-heavy to bright and focused.

Amp Crash also hosts a modest and characterful effects section: a reverb spanning from a small room to a deep cave, tape-style echo, and a chorus that reaches into metallic flanging at one end. DEPTH and TIME apply to whichever effect is currently selected, and you can bypass the section fully by turning DEPTH to zero.

Alongside the IN and OUT jacks, you'll also find a dedicated 8 Ohm speaker output, which when connected disables the internal speaker and reassigns the amp to drive whatever cabinet you plug in. You can also insert a dummy cable here to silence the internal speaker, keeping both outputs engaged for silent recording mode. Experimental by nature, Amp Crash is designed to take you into sonic realms few pedals ever reach.
