Windang LFSR Noise Synthesizer

Windang is a compact and rambunctious synthesizer from Gen Thalz, built around a Linear Feedback Shift Register. Comprising dual triangle-core VCOs, a low-pass gate, a resonant low-pass filter, an LFSR logic circuit, and a glitched-out delay with two freeze modes, the instrument is capable of conjuring all manner of metallic textures, erratic generative rhythmic structures, and wholly unholy noise. The VCOs act here as both the main sound core and the control source for the register's clock and data inputs, while the register in return modulates the VCOs, filter, gate, and effects—a movement that feels organically chaotic, yet one that remains deterministic in origin.
Built with live performance in mind, all the instrument's parameters are readily accessible. Both VCOs, filter, and LFSR controls are arranged in a 3x3 grid on the left. On the right side of the panel, three push-buttons control the freeze effect, the external input, and the main output, each paired with a bipolar toggle that flips what the button does—with the toggle down, a press momentarily engages the function; with it up, the function is held on and a press momentarily cuts it. Dedicated LFSR knobs attenuate the register's control voltage on the way to each destination. Lastly, a quartet of CV inputs for both oscillator frequencies, LPF, and FRZ serve as interaction points with the rest of your setup—and on the latter two, patching in displaces the LFSR entirely, handing its attenuator over to the incoming signal.
On the whole, Windang is a fine companion for anyone who finds joy in sonic extremes.
