Passive DI from Runic Labs is a single-channel direct box for Eurorack, built around a high-end Carnhill OEP mu-metal shielded transformer. It converts a hot, unbalanced modular signal straight to a balanced microphone-level signal, letting you connect to house consoles and mic preamps without a separate output module.

With the internal 10dB and 20dB pads engaged the signal stays transparent, bringing out the character of whatever preamp it runs into. Bypass the attenuation and the transformer drives harder, introducing the odd-harmonic saturation reminiscent of vintage American studio consoles. A ground lift switch cuts ground loop hum. And for stereo, any two Passive DIs make a matched pair, courtesy of the 0.1% metal film resistors used throughout.
